Greenfield data platform for analytics

As a mid-stage startup in the database-as-a-service space, our client was keen to find answers to key business questions ranging from customer journey (funnel/retention) to usage and cost profitability. We established a greenfield data analytics infrastructure based on Snowflake, Airbyte, Grafana and Hex. In close collaboration with the product manager, we set up the ETL infrastructure to collect client transactional data and integrate it with resource & financial master data in order to create a unified source-of-truth for billing and marketing analytics.

Together, we managed to:

  • increase the resiliency of data pipelines using data profiling/data monitoring, which helped achieve KPI of 8-hour resolution for critical issues

  • define the core business domains and set up foundational data models and transformations which were used for billing, resource optimization, marketing and growth analytics

Revolutionizing Home Ownership:
A Fintech-Real Estate Fusion

This innovative startup has successfully merged real estate and financial technology to create a groundbreaking platform that redefines home ownership. Their portfolio project introduces a unique co-ownership model, offering tenants the opportunity to build equity into their leases.

As the startup experienced rapid growth, they encountered a significant challenge - as the ledger ownership and the invoicing were managed in separate systems of record (oftentimes unstructured). In turn, this led to regulatory reporting issues, customer dissatisfaction and the inability to scale the business.

We managed to help the client establish a foundational data model, on top of which we were first able to run a set of reconciliations. Alongside listing valuations provided by market value providers, this allows us to identify gaps in equity ownership accounting and to fill them by generating equity adjustment postings. This not only addressed the ongoing reporting issues, but it also unlocked product development initiatives and future growth.

Fund an Analytics Engineering team

Working with a large corporate client in the digital marketing space (via a Toptal engagement), I contributed to founding an Analytics Engineering team and setting it up for success by establishing basic development guidelines and frameworks, kicking off the first data initiatives and consulting along the way to remove roadblocks and establish efficient collaboration with platform engineering, data enterprise and business departments.

With a stack based around Snowflake, DBT and Prefect, I sparked the adoption or building of frameworks for data observability and data quality profiling/monitoring which led to improving the visibility and trust in the team.

Set up a proper data infrastructure for the event-driven "Uber of laundry" in the US

Having been engaged after several failed data initiatives, there work around convincing business that data could indeed work for them!

We started by a complete overhaul/redesign of the domain events, with the perspective to build a streaming-first data infrastructure in which marketing, analytics and leadership could build upon a shared foundation which represented the single source-of-truth regarding operations.

With a stack based around Segment, BigQuery, MixPanel, Iterable, Impact and several other tools, we made a relatively complex data infrastructure seamlessly work together by setting up a custom control plane which orchestrates pipelines, data validations according to enforced data contracts, data flows from sources to destinations, all under the umbrella of a governance framework which guaranteed robust data delivery with prompt alerting/notifications in case of data failures.
